Prepaid Tracking
The vast majority of vehicles on South African roads do not qualify for insurance cover. However, these vehicles are still valuable to their owners, who want to do everything possible to protect their precious asset from theft and hijacking. The obvious solution is tracking technology, but the contract rates for most tracking solutions are beyond the financial means of many citizens.
Moloko Investment Holdings identified the need for affordable, flexible access to a vehicle tracking solution, and launched Prepaid Tracking. A GSM tracking unit is rented on an annual basis, and installed into the vehicle in question. The owner then pays a monthly subscription of as little as R59 per month, in advance. In months when cash is tight, the subscription may be cancelled. In recognition of its customers’ needs, however, Prepaid Tracking will still recover a customer’s vehicle if it is stolen in a month where tracking has not been paid for – however, tracking fees will be at a premium.
The tracking unit self-tests each month, and is suitable for applications well beyond simply tracking vehicles. The GSM unit is small and mobile enough that it can be included in a child’s school bag, so that parents know where their offspring are at any moment.
